INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — After the busy holiday shopping season a different kind of activity is coming to Vero Beach Outlets. Construction.
Outlet mall officials on Friday announced a multi-million dollar renovation, a new store and the addition of four yet-to-be-named restaurants.
“We will be giving the center a fresh look, a fresh feeling and we’re really making it contemporary for today’s consumer,” said mall spokeswoman Karen Fluharty.“Food is the new fashion.”
The expansion and renovation work is scheduled to start in January and be completed in time for back-to-school shoppers. The renovations include refurbishing pedestrian parkways and reconfiguring the entrance.
New store
In spring, Design Within Reach Outlet is scheduled to open in the former VF Outlet, next to Swim Mart.
Design Within Reach — at more than 25,000 square feet — will mark the first time for the store, which calls itself the "world's largest retailer of authentic modern furniture, lighting and accessories," at a traditional outlet shopping center, Fluharty said.
The success of the mall's Restoration Hardware and Williams-Sonoma outlets was why the mall pursued another home-furnishings store and wanted to expand in this area, Fluharty said.
"We are well on our way to becoming a statewide destination," Fluharty said. "Our strategy is to continue to evolve the mix, and Design Within Reach is going to be the category leader for us."
